ASPARAGUS – HERALDS OF SPRING
After a long cold winter, it is time to wake up from hibernation. The arrival of spring is heralded by the first wild asparagus sprouting from the ground. The asparagus period starts at the beginning of April, when the first warm rays of the sun heat up the sea and the slopes where asparagus grow. Asparagus belongs to the lily family and can grow wild but can also be cultivated.
Asparagus has many beneficial effects on human health: it helps protect heart and blood vessels, fights cholesterol, has a diuretic effect and stimulates body detoxification. The distinctive feature of this plant is that it has a low energy but a high nutritional value, which is why asparagus is often recommended to maintain slim figure. In the history, it was regarded an aphrodisiac due to the high content on vitamin E, which is also known as the vitamin of fertility.
